DETROIT - The Detroit Athletic Club (DAC), in keeping with its longstanding tradition of supporting athletics in the community, announced last night the winners of the 2009 Michigan High School and College Athlete of the Year awards. These prestigious honors are awarded not only for athletic ability, but also for the academic and humanitarian efforts of high school and college student athletes.
The 2009 Michigan High School Athlete of the Year winners are Matthew Conway of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Olivia Stander of Grosse Pointe, MI. The recipients of the fourth annual College Athlete of the Year Award are Katie Cezat, Hillsdale College basketball phenom, and Tim Hiller, football star of Western Michigan University.
Winners of the 2009 Michigan High School Athlete of the Year Awards were announced last night during the annual Chrysler National Athletic Awards, which were held at the DAC and benefit the March of Dimes.
The program will be televised by WDIV Channel 4 and later broadcast by Comcast around the state. Also at the event, the March of Dimes presented their Inspirational Athlete Award to swimmer Rowdy Gaines.
